Chronicles of the Cheysuli

"One day, a man of all blood shall unite, in peace, two magical races and four warring realms"

That phrase, the prophesy passed down by the Gods of the Cheysuli, drives this race of shapechangers to fulfill their destiny, their "tahlmorra".   At one time, the Cheysuli had been the rulers of the land of Homana.  Now, the Homanans are in the midst of a purge of the Cheysuli, attempting to exterminate them.

The Homanans have already decimated the Cheysuli population.  The hatred and fear have been easily fanned because the Cheysuli are gifted by the Gods with "magical" powers, the most obvious of which is the ability to change their shape.  This shapechange has its price though.  In order to change his shape, the warrior must have bonded with a lir, a creature sent by the gods in the guise of a wild animal.  If the lir is harmed, the warrior is harmed.  If the lir is killed, a part of the warrior is lost also, and the "soulless" ones give themselves up in a death ritual.

Now, after hundreds of years, it appears that the time for the fulfillment of the prophecy approaches.  This series follows the instruments of the prophecy, the rulers of the realm of Homana and the clan leaders of the Cheysuli, as the necessary steps are taken to forge each link in the chain.

The series of 8 books is very well written, with excellent character development and a believable story line.   The heroes and heroines are likable and their dilemmas and trials become very real.   You become personally involved as their lives are bent to the purpose of the prophecy, sacrificing personal happiness for its fulfillment.
